Adcraft Club recently sponsored Global Portfolio Night on May 22, hosted by Doner at the Rust Belt Market in Ferndale. Porfolio Night is an international event held on one night each year in various cities around the globe and has been helping aspiring creatives hone their craft for more than a decade. This year was special because it was the first year ever Portfolio Night has been hosted in Detroit.
The event featured 30 creative directors from eight different agencies across metro Detroit who came out to provide professional advice on the portfolios of more than 50 local students. New this year, one attendee from each Portfolio Night city was selected as an “All-Star” to represent the best aspiring creative from that city.
After creative directors kept an eye out all night for one student who stood out among the crowd, Andrew Stencil from the College for Creative Studies was selected to represent Portfolio Night Detroit as an All-Star. Andrew will now be flown to New York in August to compete in the Portfolio Night All-Stars creative challenge. The challenges is a week-long event where All-Stars from around the world will be divided into creative units to work on a real brief from a real client, while being mentored and coached by members of the Art Directors Club community. The week will come to a close with a presentation to the client by each creative unit. The work will be evaluated, and one team will be identified as the winner.
Passionate about extreme sports design, Andrew currently performs freelance work for skateboard and snowboard companies, designing their boards. His portfolio can be viewed at www.andrewstencil.com
Adcraft would like to thank the following Adcrafters, among many individuals, who were key in pulling together Portfolio Night Detroit: Bela Kogler, Cristina D’Aristotile and Rob Strasberg.
